This Single-Family spec residence, also a design for a development collaborative, is designed to take advantage of a southern exposure and southern views of mountains while neutralizing the visual and sound effect of the highway below. The main level living areas (the Master, Living, Dining and Kitchen), are oriented around an elevated courtyard patio, The stone railing wall of the patio provides a dense screen concealing views of the highway below and deflecting highway noise from the interior living areas. Above the railing wall, sight-lines through tall glass patio doors capture the expansive views to the high mountain vistas beyond.
Southwestern sun is controlled by the forward projection of the Master Bedroom wing on the west. The Garage, Family Room and two Bedrooms are embedded into the landscape as a stone base,. Together with the lighter wood massing of the main living level and upper level bedrooms the composition results in a prominent but anchored contextual dwelling .
